Cobb Access port questions

Postby kingnate » Thu Jul 01, 2010 2:23 pm

Kicking around the idea of getting one but I wanted to ask if anyone knew that if I uninstalled it from the ECU would the dealer be able to tell.

I ask because I wanna just do a s1 tune on it and do some data logging to see if I can find the source where this stuttering is coming from. I know the dealers around here are sticklers for crap like this and considering all the issues I already had I don't want to torch my warranty.

My understanding is that the dealer is able to tell. I do not know how they can, but have been told that they can.

Dont waste your money on AP. If you want to do it right, let Cam tune it, its safer and will net better power/response. Minimum, get a drop in filter n tune, if you want to do it right, get a new dp and tune. Cam can remap your throttle position too, that drive by wire shit they come with sucks.

And yes, the dealer can definitely tell if you flashed it, if they look hard enough, AP or Open source.

Doesn't it cost around $400 to get an AP transferred over to another car?

You just unmarry it from one car and marry it to another. You can't have 2 different cars flashed with it at once. Just get me to tune it and if you want to get your own tactrix cable to datalog it, etc.

Ok cool my plan was to first see if there was a tuner out there that the dealer couldn't see or was at least more difficult to find and then start talking to you about tuning. So far what I have found is really the only way to tell is by flash counts but that is still pretty shakey way to tell. Trying to get data on the chip used so I can get a better idea.

If its just and marry/unmarry kind of procedure how much you lookin to get for the AP ubderdoo?

I wonder if it is like a check sum or something in the code

The code stm gets dated, and when it does not match the most recent service they get kinda but hurt. they tried to charge me a diaganostics fee, I told Premier to pound sand , I was only in for a seat warranty.

Ahhh ok so everytime you bring it in for service they pull data down off of the ecm and update that value. hmmm any idea what chip they use for control?
